No you did not mention what menu item type the parent menu item is.
With menu item type 'Menu Heading' and a standard menu item and Cassiopeia template then clicking any part of the parent menu item works

Hi webdongle, I did actually. Check my original post. I wrote and quote:

"However, most visitors by default, clicks on the Menu item itself (A) and nothing happens. only later that they realise they actually have to click the drop down arrow so that the menu expands and shows B and C.
I've tried changing the setting of A to put it as a 'Seperator' and also a 'Menu heading' but none of that works. We still have to click the drop down arrow."

So basically if you did not understand, A is the parent item. I am not using Casiopeia fyi.
